RETREAT FROM MOSCOU
These flats are examples of a big set edited by late Werner Scholtz between 1932 - 1936. Designed by Hans Fritsch and engraved by Sixtus Maier there are 244 different figures of Napoleons Grande Armeé at the 1812 Retreat from Russia depicted. It is one of the bigger sets edited by an editor for a specific historical outlay. All of these flats are still available from Scholtz Berlin. You will find some more shown at their site.
Besides the members of Grande Armeé this set includes Russian peasants, cossacks and even some wolves attacking dispersed stragglers.
All of them have been painted by Vladimir Douchkine, Paris (1900 - 1989).
